VJ Kohli
VJ Kohli is an emerging artist from Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland. A learned man with an English Honors and a Masters degree in Liberal Arts, he is presently working towards a PhD in Metaphysics research.A strong urge to create spiritually meaningful sketches arose in VJ while he was nursing his father, who at the time was suffering from an advanced cancer. This urge lasted for fifteen weeks, during which time he created approximately four hundred sketches, stopping suddenly once his father had passed away. Despite being surrounded by sadness and the feeling of inevitable death, the line work of all the sketches appear to be positive and of carefree abandon.
VJ now creates frequently, with images appearing in his imagination coupled with prose or verse. Free form geometric shapes dominate his sketches, ordered in such a way that they break the oneness of the white page. VJ describes this as diversity on the page or images representing metaphysical concepts like reality, time, and space. VJ acknowledges that his energy is episodic, lasting for a few days and then disappearing again. He believes that the sketching is not of his hands, but that he merely channels creativity, being a witness to the whole process. His art is unique and sophisticated, with an uncanny familiarity and simplicity. His messages are enlightening, thought provoking and profound.
VJ has an overpowering desire to visually understand what Reality truly is. He is currently working on a book entitled: Practical Benefits of Spirituality. VJ is the founder of the Interfaith Round Table in Ireland and is the recipient of an ‘Ambassador of Peace Award’ from the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace.
